I can't think of very many people - if any - who don't like Charlie Puth. He's like the underdog everyone roots for in music - he's not super famous, and he may not make a hit every time, but we love him anyway. Since he's not much of an outgoing person, whether in interviews or even sometimes in his music, it's a nice surprise to see Charlie get a little playful in the video for his latest single, "Done for Me."
The 26-year-old singer taps into his fun side to give us 80s vibes and some awkward dance moves to go along with them. The video takes a lot of inspiration from Wham!, and reminds us a bit of the duo's hit "Everything She Wants."
The video, directed by RJ Sanchez and Brendan Vaughn, shows Charlie and Kehlani, the featured artist on the single, in a bit of a love triangle as they go for the same woman.
"“I made this record, I produced this after an unsuccessful party in L.A., which is what all these records are based off of on my album. But I just went home played these, I have my little Juno keyboard over there that I had….I just hit one of these settings here and just played a B minor cord and it just made me think of Wham!, it made me think of 1988 and I put that chord down and I immediately thought of Kehlani too," Charlie told Beats 1's Zane Lowe.
Although I would have loved to have seen a little more of Charlie's sexy side in the video (preferably shirtless!), he still manages to give me that tingle I've come to expect whenever I hear his voice. Even fully clothed, he still knows how to be sexy. Besides, if it's shirtless Charlie we want, we can just check out his Instagram.
