Tye Sheridan, the 21-year-old Texas native who is making a name for himself in his latest project Ready Player One, doesn't seem to have a bad side (or even a not-so-good side for that matter). The young actor, who has been in other high profile films like X-Men: Apocalypse, is very aware that he's got the Southern charm and boy-next-door looks to pull it off. In his latest interview with W Magazine, Tye talks about working with legendary director Steven Spielberg and his fascination with virtual reality - all while refusing to wear a shirt.
Tye and photographer Ethan James Green experimented with several different looks for the shoot, from a Texas cowboy circa 1980s to a retro club kid look that frankly no one should be wearing (but he still pulls it off somehow).
When asked about working with someone like Spielberg, who has brought us countless classic films like E.T., Jaws, and Jurassic Park.
"One day, we were on set waiting on something. Steven’s sitting there on the edge of the bed, and he’s got his headset on and his little monitor, and he’s just looking around, waiting, and he looks at me and he goes, 'It’s not the take that takes the time to take a take, it’s the time between the takes that takes the time to take a take.' I make him repeat that one, slowly, and he bursts out laughing. Steven goes—so humbly, by the way—'Yeah, I made that up on Jaws.'"
Tye also has his own VR company, Aether Inc., which he tends to when he's not half dressed on the cover of a magazine or working with one of the world's most beloved directors.
"I was completely obsessed with VR before I even heard about Ready Player One, or even knew that Steven was doing a film," he said. "So when the script came around and I had the opportunity to audition for it, I was like, ‘Hoooly s–t. This is going to be huge!'"
For someone so young, Tye's really got a lot on his plate these days. Let's just hope all these projects don't keep him from showing some skin in the future.
