Southern Decadence 2006

One of the less commented-upon Bad Things to happen to us here in New Orleans last year was Katrina's impact on Southern Decadence, the annual Labor Day bacchanalia that annually draws over 100,000 revellers to the Big Sleazy for a long weekend of boys, booze, and bare skin. Assuming this year's climatological benevolence holds out for the next two weeks, this year's Decadence celebration promises to be one of the most eagerly anticipated events yet, with appearances by porn directrix Chi Chi LaRue (who will be hosting a "Battle of the Bulge" contest with the dreamy Roman Heart and her other "Men of Decadence" at the Bourbon Pub on Thursday night to kick things off) and performance artistes The Lady Bunny and Shirley Q. Liquor ... to say nothing about the masses of bead-grubbing exhibitionists crowding the intersection of St. Ann and Bourbon streets who are always the main focus of entertainment. Since we're sure you don't have anything nearly as sexy to do over Labor Day weekend, why not come down and join the party? There's still time to book a flight and hotel room. And we promise not to post any embarassing pictures of you flashing your family jewels for a cheap strand of plastic beads. We have too much respect for you to do that.
