The casting in the upcoming revival of Terrence McNally's echt-70's comedy "The Ritz" is definitely inspired: In addition to the (not so) dulcet tones of the (not always) charming Rosie Perez, you'll be able to feast your eyes upon 90s gay porn icon Ryan Idol. The star of such classics as "Idol in the Sky" and "Idol Thoughts" makes his Broadway debut as one of several "patrons of the bathhouse where the action of the comedy is set." Now, before you theater queens get all technical and question the dramatic credentials of Mr. Idol (aka Marc Anthony Donais) you'll be relieved to hear this isn't his first time on the Great White Way. (And by that we don't mean, um, this.)
The esteemed critics at Broadway.com remind us that Idol appeared as a replacement star of the off-Broadway comedy "Making Porn" and later headlined the national tour of the same production. Sure, neither role has required much more than a naked walk-on from stage left or a shirtless-towel scene ... but something tells us the fans (and producers) aren't complaining.
