Joe Gage’s “Gunnery Sgt. McCool” (And His Pals) Are At Your Service

Joe Gage has many talents as a director, but picking titles for his movies isn't one of them. Hot as it was, last year's "Arcade on Route 9" sounded less like a porn flick than the title of a real estate prospectus, and one of our problems with "Road to Redneck Hollow" was that it involved little by way of actual roads or rednecks. And now we have "Gunnery Sgt. McCool", which judging from the title promises to be both a hot military-themed fuckfest and a welcome star vehicle for Fleshbot crush object Vinnie D'Angelo (even if Dean Flynn, who Titan seems to be promoting most as their marquee performer these days, confusingly gets center stage on the box cover).

But Gage's idea of military porn isn't the same as what you'll find in, say, Raging Stallion's "Grunts": instead of your usual basic training and barracks orgy action, the longest sequence in "McCool" takes place in an anonymous looking medical office with a "Sperm Bank" sign on the door. And although D'Angelo delivers standout performances in the two scenes which bookend the film (including the piss-soaked, epic-length seven man orgy finale), he doesn't quite have the gravitas to carry the whole movie on his own.

Good thing he doesn't have to: "Gunnery Sgt. McCool" also stars a platoon's worth of insanely hot performers, including Fleshbot faves Andrew Justice, Tyler Saint, and Jason Ridge. But our favorite scene in the film—the one we've kept returning to (ahem) and the one that shows best why we love anything by Joe Gage so much—is a threeway starring newbies Scott Tanner, Justin Burkshire, and Brandon Monroe as, respectively, Dad, Son, and Dad's Army Buddy Who Sleeps Over On The Sofa And Ends Up As The Filling In A Dad-And-Son Fuck Sandwich. As the centerpiece of what ends up being a pretty satisfying wank movie overall, it's as exquisitely paced, full of surprises, and boner-inducingly nasty as anything Gage has ever filmed ... and reminds us once again why he's one of our all-time favorite porn directors. Even if his titles can sometimes use a little work.
