New Rule: Pick One Name and Stick To It

We know way more about pecs and six-packs than we do about economic science, but we think that porn stars need to take Econ 101. Or maybe it's just "Vance" here.

Vance, the hairy one in the pictures, has a new video up on ChaosMen with partner Stash (there's not enough room in one post to dissect two porn star names). Many of you will know Vance from his time at both Sean Cody and Randy Blue as Gage Wilson. With the proliferation of "amateur" sites out there, and the willingness of the models to skip from one to another, we see the actors' names change more and more.

In an environment where there are as many blogs writing about the porn as there are sites delivering the porn, don't the stars and producers think that someone is going to notice that it's the same guy and say something? It's a little insulting to their consumers to insult their intelligence (and porn-fiendishness) in such a way.

Second of all, it doesn't make sound business sense. When a hot guy starts performing under a certain name, he is basically building a brand. In Vance's case, it's a hairy versatile stud who gives as good as he gets. People know his face, body, and cock size and follow the changes in his hairstyle and proliferation of chest hair. Since this brand is one of the few things a performer has, don't you think he'd want to leverage that when changing studios? It makes sense for ChaosMen to piggyback off the promotions and marketing that Sean Cody has already done by announcing "Now with Gage!" on their homepage under a shiny picture of his pretty face.

Not only does that benefit the new studio and the fans, but will also show the star's power if he can prove that he has portability and a substantial fanbase. By switching names he and his new studio are basically saying, "What he did before doesn't count. We're going to try to see you the same milk in a different bottle and hope no one notices." Instead, they should be saying, "Remember how good that milk was? Drink it in a better glass."
