5 Ways Michael Lucas Could Have Handled the Situation Better

Michael Lucas got in touch with us yesterday to tell us that he was upset that we said he appeared "jealous" over his dust-up with Brent Corrigan. We apologize, but we have some constructive criticism.

For those who haven't been paying attention, Lucas rushed the stage at the GayVN awards to admonish the porn industry for nominating and honoring Corrigan when he got his start in porn by falsifying documents to say he was 18 when he was under age. The swipe raised the ire of Corrigan's boyfriend who then reportedly threatened Lucas in public. The police got involved and the matter is still unresolved.

Lucas told us on the phone that he didn't do it out of jealous, but to protect the industry from people who try to falsify documents and to improve it's image so that people don't think legit porn is next to kiddie porn. He said he's been on this crusade for a number of years. We believe that Lucas' intentions were honorable, and we're sorry if we hinted otherwise. Naturally he posted his response here.

If, as he said, the issue is not about jealousy or his own publicity, here are five ways he could have gotten his message out and had everyone focus on the content rather than when and where he made the statement and the he said/he said aftermath that ensued.

1. Wear a T-Shirt or Symbol to the Awards: If he showed up on the red carpet wearing a "Don't Give Brent Corrigan a Trophy" T-shirt or some AIDS Ribbon-like symbol, everyone would have asked about it and he could have told reporters calmly how he feels about Corrian and kiddie porn. That way, everyone would know, and the boyfriend wouldn't have seen the comments until Lucas was out of town.

2. Boycott the Awards: If Lucas feels that strongly about the issue, maybe he should have just stayed home and issued a statement about his absense, which would have gotten plenty of attention. Or, in Marlon Brando style, sent a anti-child porn advocate to accept his Hall of Fame induction trophy and use the stage to give a speech about the issue.

3. Issue a Statement: We all know the power of the Lucas press machine. He gets blog posts when he shaves his head for christsake. A blog post blasting Corrigan and the GayVN awards the day after they were held would have had just as much impact, kept Lucas safe, and rendered void all the comments that he did this out of jealousy or to seek publicity.

4. Make a YouTube Video: Chi Chi LaRue did it. Wolf Hudson did it. Hell, Reese Rideout can't go a week with out doing it. Make one either before or after the awards, and it would have gotten tons of hits and gotten your point across much more easily, especially if you fill it full of hot guys. Which brings us to...

5. Make a porn about it: It's what you do best, Michael Lucas. His most recent film, "Entrapment," is a screed against NYPD entraping men cruising for sex and charging them with prostitution. He gets his message across in the opening credits and by speaking directly to the viewer during the end credits. in between, we get to watch a bunch of guys fuck. Talk about driving your message home!
