It's sad news that Maveti Media, which published several gay beat-off rags, has died. It is survived by its bastard children Randy Blue, Sean Cody, XTube, and Fleshbot. Hopefully we got something in the will!
According to recent reports, the company has folded all its titles, including Honcho, Inches, Playguy, Torso, and Mandate, which was around for almost 35 years before its title was coopted by stupid articles about the behavior of straight men trying to bond. If you're reading this on a computer screen, well, then it's no wonder why the magazines folded.
However, there was something wonderfully quaint about them—and while we never bought them, it was nice to know that they were still around if we needed them. Just to be safe, we're renewing our subscription to Unzipped—at this point, it's about keeping a cultural institution alive. You know, kind of like being a patron of the opera.
