We've heard from multiple sources that Men and Freshmen magazine will both shutter at the end of the month. Not like you care. You kids are looking at your porn on the newfangled XTube. Anyway, someone is probably sad. Updated
That someone is probably Regent Media, the gay conglomerate that owned the two titles, along with Out, The Advocate, Here! television, and Gay.com. They also own Unzipped, one of the last of the remaining gay porn magazines, now that Playgirl and the Maveti Media titles (like Honcho, Torso, and Inches) have folded. A request for comment from Regent wasn't returned by press time, but we have it on good aurthority that this will be the last issue for each of the magazines and that their offices will be closed by the end of September.
Unzipped doesn't seem to be in any danger though. They just named a new Executive Editor last month and are trying to reposition themselves as the "gay Playboy," which means that some people will read it for the articles, and those people will not really exist, because they'll really just be reading for the dick. No shame in that. The only reason we every pick up one of those nasty print publications is if there are naked guys in it. Looks like now we'll have even fewer choices.
Update: Unzipped media, which is now a private company and no longer with Regent Media, called to say that Men and Freshmen haven't ceased publication, but are now going quarterly. If you had a subscription to either magazine, you'll now get Unzipped, while Men and Freshmen will be sold exclusively on newsstands, most likely as themed issues. So all the older gentlemen cruising the gay bookstores will still have something to look at, but the copies will be 4 times as dogeared.
