Why bother going to your local gay art gallery to learn all about the sexy pictures and things our forefathers made. Instead, just look at these snaps from Hudson Wright. He certainly knows what he's talking about.
Seriously, his set of photos starring models Joshua Saunders and Brett Gibbs on YVY Mag are a compilation of images that seem like we've seen them before, even though they are entirely new. There is the naked bodies on the beach of Herb Ritz, the studs in the sand of Bruce Weber, the beauties of beefcake of Bob Miser of Athletic Model Guild fame, and the hues of hotness of painter David Hockney's L.A. pool series. There are even shades of homoerotic vintage navy photography of Evan Bachner's "At Ease."
Just because it looks like something else doesn't mean that we can't enjoy it. Quite the contrary, in fact. Wright shows us that he has studied a bit before picking up a camera to just snap abs aimlessly. As for the guys, they're pretty sexy too, and the fact that their naked on the beach makes us simultaneously jealous and aroused. Combine that with our art history hard on, and we haven't been this excited since it was Tom of Finland day in our Queer Theory class!
