We're sure you already know all about how much we just love jocks in states of undress, but can we just take a moment to tell you how excited we are about ESPN Magazine's upcoming Body Issue?
Yes, we see images of hot, half-naked or fully naked people in our magazines all the time. But most of those people tend to be of the freakishly perfect fashion model variety, the vast majority of them white, fatless and absurdly good-looking. ESPN Magazine's Body Issue totally flips the script, showcasing nude portraits of different athletes. Yeah, all of the people in it are in amazing physical shape, but they also represent a multitude of ethnicities, body shapes, and imperfections. Athletes have scars and slightly asymmetrical faces. Some female athletes even have a good deal of muscle (something it would seem the fashion industry is not a fan of).
We're so happy to find at least one mainstream magazine regularly putting out a truly body-positive publication that we could hardly ask for more. Yet still, there's more to be had. Apparently, the upcoming issue will feature goalkeeper Tim Howard and 12 nude portraits of college athletes from an undisclosed Division I-A school. Also, there's a whole article about athletes who poop their pants! And when ESPN magazine is going out of their way to appeal to Coprophiliacs, then you know they're trying to be inclusive.
