The Disco Era in Naked Fire Island

This morning, gays worldwide woke up to the heartbreaking news that Donna Summer died after a battle with cancer. We at Gay Fleshbot give a moment of silence in the only way we know how: with naked men. As you listen to "Last Dance" on repeat today, check out these Fire Island photos from the '70s of the men who originally boogied to the great Queen of Disco.

As these speedoed hunks danced to the tune of "Bad Girls," an unknown lawyer named Tom Bianchi took out his new-fangled Polaroid camera and snapped away. Lo and Behold, a few snaps of this Hot Stuff, and Bianchi launched a decades-long new career of photographing naked gays in The Pines. Gays from Boca Raton to Palm Springs now had something artsy and naked for their coffee tables. What's striking is that, save a porn-stache or two, these 1970s Polaroids could have been taken yesterday via Instagram. How little has changed in almost half a decade -- just read Larry Kramer's "Faggots".

What also hasn't changed, wonderfully, is the gay's love for Miss Summer. Step back to the party days of yesteryear, when Donna sounded as fresh and groovy as she does today. In remembrance of the disco years, dance dance dance and leave a cake out in the rain.
