Now back home in the Midwest, Zane Michaels announced the release of his new book, Shame and Fortune, last night. Pegged for an October 11th release, the digital novel is "inspired by actual events," although it appears to be more of a tell-all memoir.
The book's website is a treasure chest of information—a peek into the previously private lives of two straight best friends that risked everything to conquer the gay porn industry, a dream that became all too real. Five excerpts from the book reveal an abusive childhood, Zane's introduction to the industry, and the gruesome physical altercations that erupted after the site's success began weighing heavily on the pair:
"At some point, our bodies broke through a painting that was leaning up against the pool table and some how the fight carried across the house and into my bedroom. I'm not sure how but at some point I was on top of him swinging like crazy at his face, there was blood all over both of us and at some point I took out my phone and snapped a photo of his face. I've never deleted that photo because sometimes I look at it as a reminder of one of my darkest days and how I never want to get to that point with my best friend again."
This may be the most shocking turnaround we've seen in the biz, and although it may not be a New York Times bestseller, we have no doubt it's going to be one juicy read. Think of it as Zane's goodbye kiss to the industry; he told us yesterday that he has sold off his share of AustinZane.com and won't be returning to the industry.
The site surely won't be the same without Zane, but we're hoping to continue seeing more of Austin and Co.
We wish the best of luck to Zane Michaels on his new journey. Don't drink too much of your critics' Hater-ade, and you'll always have a friend in Fleshbot!
