[youtube 9uJ1eJ3u1hI 550 351]One of the year's most buzzed-about gay film festival shorts is coming soon to DVD. Adults Only follows a photographer who becomes fascinated by anonymous sex.
Matthew (played by writer/producer Heath Daniels) has been haunted by the memories of recent failed relationship. One night, on his way home from a gig, he finds a distraction: two men leaving a porn arcade. He follows the men to a secluded alley and photographs their passionate tryst from the shadows, unable to take his eyes off their primal connection.
The next night, he returns and enters the arcade. Pushing through the curtain, he is ushered into a fluorescent maze of hallways leading to private booths. Cracked doors and skillfully placed peepholes offer a voyeuristic view of intense and private man-on-man action. He thinks he's only there to watch, but his whole view of reality is shaken when he meets an intense, handsome stranger and finds himself in an intimate encounter of his own.
Writer/director/producer/actor Heath Daniels and prolific short filmmaker Michael J. Saul scored laughter and applause with their 2010 short comedy Go Go Reject. They returned to the festival circuit in 2013 with Adults Only, which is equally accomplished, but far more erotic. With little-to-no dialog and a voyeuristic camera compliments the subject matter, Adults Only is an engaging experimental short. It's also uplifting, in addition to being arousing. For a film that revolves around anonymous sex in a seedy club, this movie has some heart.
The flick itself is 26 minutes, but the DVD is packed with bonus features. You can pre-order it now for just $9.99 exclusively at TLAgay.com. The DVD will be released in February.
