Sometimes An Eggplant Is Just An Eggplant, But Instagram Thinks All Eggplants Are Cocks

If you were operating under the delusion that you could take full advantage of Instagram's new feature that allows you to search by emoji, I've got some bad news. Apparently they got out in front of the eggplant problem and blocked searching with an eggplant emoji. So, you know, take that fans of eggplants, which is like every Italian on the planet. 

Look Instagram, we get it. You don't like nudity and you really hate dicks pressed up against pants, but you're going a little overboard with this one. Emojis are stupid and I wish they didn't exist, but the harder you try to police shit like this, the more bad publicity you're going to get. According to News Ledge (link below), however, this is just the latest step in Instagram's crusade against nudity.

The eggplant block continues its push against nudity on the service. Earlier this month, Instagram updated its community guidelines banning photos, videos and digitally created content depicting sex, genitals and up-close pictures of bare butts.

This includes any artistic nude photos or content.

“We know that there are times when people might want to share nude images that are artistic or creative in nature,” the updated guidelines said. “But for a variety of reasons, we don’t allow nudity on Instagram.”

“We want Instagram to continue to be an authentic and safe place for inspiration and expression,” the service said.

I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but there's nothing authentic about banning shit, no matter how much you may dislike it. The fact that Instagram lives in a bubble wherein they seem to believe that sheltering people from things they can see literally anywhere else is disheartening, but not unexpected.
