If you’re unfamiliar with the hunky UK actor Idris Elba, he mainly know for his titular role as a detective in the BBC crime drama series Luther. Or you might know him for his portrayal as Russell “Stringer” Bell, a high-ranking lackey for a drug kingpin on the gritty HBO drama The Wire. You comic book movie nerds surely know the hunky actor for his portrayal of Heimdall, the all-seeing and all-hearing sentry of Asgard who patrols the rainbow bridge in Thor (2011) and Thor: The Dark World (2013). And as one would assume, a dude has to be quite a powerhouse to protect Asgard from would-be do badders, and Idris more than lives us to these muscle-bound expectations.

Idris is getting into extra-fit shape for his most recent role in the action drama Bastille Day (2016). Though we’re nearly a year-and-a-half removed from the film hitting the big screen, it’s never too early to get buff for the big movie.
