I loved Magic Mike, without even a hint of irony. I thought it was a fantastic movie that forever changed my opinion of Channing Tatum, and gave Matthew McConaughey his best scene stealing role since Dazed and Confused. It also didn't hurt that it was a hunk-o-rama. One thing I think the film didn't need, however, was a sequel, yet they're making one, and with McConaughey out, the producers have turned to former NFL player Michael Strahan. Wait, what?
Yeah, you read that right. The man who has replaced everyone from Lawrence Taylor to Regis Philbin is now going to strut his stuff in Magic Mike XXL. All this is according to Strahan himself, who broke the news on his show Michael and Kathie Lee and Hoda and Regis. ABC News (link below) has the scoop...
"I'm getting ready to do something that's making me nervous," he said today. "I'm about to do something that started as a joke on the show."
In a video clip, Strahan said he would be in the movie for Tatum.
"I would do it for you," he said, then shaking hands with the star of the movie.
On Monday, Strahan admitted he would wear very little in his upcoming big screen appearance.
"It's kind of a thong thing," he said of his outfit for the movie.
Okay, so this is probably more of a glorified cameo than an actual role. At best, he'll probably fill Kevin Nash's thong in the role of the washed-up stripper who's getting way too old for this shit. No word on whether he'll sing a rousing chorus of "Ladies of Tampa," either, which would also be a huge miss. I love that song.
