So, you've probably seen this story floating around, but it's 100% worth your time to hear about it if you haven't already. CNN got up in arms Saturdy when, during London's Gay Pride Parade this past Saturday, they spotted what they believed to be the ISIS flag, but which actually turned out to be a flag covered in dildos and butt plugs.
According to mic.com (link below), CNN substitute anchor Suzanne Malveaux—though I'm sure you can add the word "former" to the front of her credentials soon enough—actually interrupted the regular broadcast with the breaking news that someone with an ISIS flag was marching in London's gay pride parade. This obviously turned out to be not only patently untrue, but hilariously so...
...the "ISIS flag" in question is not actually an ISIS flag. It is a crude parody with lettering composed of the silhouettes of sex toys.
Specifically, dildos and butt plugs.
The error in question is even more embarrassing when listening to the clip, in which CNN producer Lucy Pawle admits that the lettering on the flag was not Arabic but "gobbledygook" and describes wondering why no one else seemed significantly worried about its presence
In case you're like me and most everyone else on the planet, and have no idea what the ISIS flag looks like, here's a picture...
I will now defer to the master of takedowns, John Oliver, for a thorough drubbing of CNN's coverage...
