Get ready to raise a pint and grab some corned beef as the publisher behind the upcoming Humans of New York book has set their sights on shirtless Irish farmers for their next book. The book will be comprised of pictures from the last seven years' worth of the popular Irish Farmer Calendar, a relatively unknown phenomenon here in the States.
According to The Journal (link below), the book won't be released here until March, but it will be exclusively available in the U.S.—at least as much as any book could hope to be exclusive to one country—and ten percent of the proceeds from the book's sales will go to Irish charity Bóthar.
Kilkenny farmer Gareth Alcorn, who has posed for the past three calendars, said he was surprised to hear that a US publisher was interested in the project.
“I still have trouble understanding why it’s so popular here,” he joked.
Alcorn said he is not self-conscious about stripping off, but that he would find it “embarrassing” if he were ever recognised in the US.
This year, he is the calendar’s June and August model, posing with a dancing deer and lamb.
The 2016 edition, which was shot in Nore Valley Park in Kilkenny, is now available over on farmercalendar.com
And as a special treat, here are this year's calendar photos to get you ready for the book...
