Amini Fonua Tells Nico Hines and The Daily Beast to Kiss His Ass

Amini Fonua is a gorgeous Olympic swimmer hailing from Tonga, and in the wake of that now revoked, insanely disgusting Daily Beast Grindr article, directed author Nico Hines to kiss his ass on Instagram. But... what about me?! In the picture the men's 100m breastroke swimmer shows his glorious bubble butt and a tan line will do serious things to you.

In case you missed it, which I doubt you did since even my dog knows about The Daily Beast article and thinks it's disgusting - and my dog often shows up with dog poop on her face - a reporter named Nico Hines utilized Grindr to attract both closeted and out gay Olympians in Rio. The article was called "The Other Olympic Sport in Rio: Swiping," and while Nico did not reveal the names of the guys he was secretly trolling, he did describe them in detail.

The WTF article from this journalist, who makes Zoe Barnes' work on House of Cards look like stuff in Highlights Magazine, poses an inherent danger to those athletes representing countries where homosexuality is criminalized. Outing them could have serious repercussions, and you have to imagine that Nico Hines was at least somewhat aware of the facts.

The Daily Beast revoked the article in the wake of accusations of gay baiting and endangerment, but it's hard not to notice that they got a bunch of publicity for this. Here's some of their "Note From the Editors" posted after the removal of Nico's article:

As shared in our editor’s note earlier today, we initially thought swift removal of any identifying characteristics and better clarification of our intent was the adequate way to address this. Our initial reaction was that the entire removal of the piece was not necessary. We were wrong. We’re sorry. And we apologize to the athletes who may have been inadvertently compromised by our story.

Today we did not uphold a deep set of The Daily Beast’s values. These values—which include standing up to bullies and bigots, and specifically being a proudly, steadfastly supportive voice for LGBT people all over the world—are core to our commitment to journalism and to our commitment to serving our readers.

As a newsroom, we succeed together and we fail together, and this was a failure on The Daily Beast as a whole, not a single individual. The article was not intended to do harm or degrade members of the LGBT community, but intent doesn’t matter, impact does. Our hope is that removing an article that is in conflict with both our values and what we aspire to as journalists will demonstrate how seriously we take our error.

While members of the LGBT are voicing their frustration in various ways, you have to give props to Amini Fonua for somehow managing to show off his gorgeous body and ass AND slam The Daily Beast. Nico Hines is supposedly a married straight man, but Fonua knows why God created Grindr and responded with:

Yo @nicohines &@thedailybeast - if what you were looking for on Grindr was hot ass (and I don't see any other reason why you'd be on there) here you have mine in all its proud glory.
Now, kiss it and fuck off #pride

He knows it, we know it - Nico just wanted some dick. Amini Fonua's home country of Tonga is conservative, so he's well aware of how damaging an article like Nico's could potentially be. Gentlemen and gentlemen, THIS is how you clap back at a h8er! I'm sure in a couple of months The Daily Beast author will be a power bottom serving all of Provincetown, and I'm sure we'll still be looking at this insanely hot bubble butt.
