Troye Sivan is definitely one of the most candid celebs out there. He's not shy and doesn't hold much back, which is not only entertaining and empowering through his music, but also makes him super relatable IRL.
In a recent interview, the 22-year-old 'My My My' singer opened up about his Grindr nightmare (we all have at least one) from a few years back. He and the guy were hanging out when all of a sudden the dude whipped out his cellphone then started browsing guys on Grindr. "It was a while ago," Troye remembers. "I was like, ‘OK. I think I’m just gonna go home.’"
Pause. As if having cute little Troye in his presence wasn't enough, he just starts looking for another hookup? This guy surely fucked up.
Ok, so his most awkward experience doesn't even begin to compare to the rest of ours, but let's cut him some slack. He says dating back then was pretty scary for him, but he's opened up a lot since getting into the limelight. Troye is current dating model Jacob Bixenman, and the two seem very happy just doing their thing. And don't think for a second that these two are willing to share each other, either.
"I am definitely a serial monogamist," Troye says. "I don’t really know. I’ve only ever had a couple of relationships, but they’ve been one after the other."
Troye also opened up about how his music is impacted by his sexual identity - something he holds dear. "I’m gonna definitely continue to be honest in my music and keep writing from my perspective, which happens to be a queer one. And, of course, I wanna keep up any sort of activism work that I do, but I don’t know if I’m necessarily responsible for the conversation around my music being centered around my sexuality."
He understands that other artists want to branch out and be more, but he's content just being who he is.
"I’ve never had a problem with it. I know some people do, because some people don’t wanna be ever boxed in as anything. I don’t really see the big deal because I am a gay artist, and I’m totally fine to be called a gay artist."
He already knows how he'd like to be remembered, too. First and foremost, always remember his artistic honesty through music.
"What I want people to remember me as is someone who loves pop music and someone who loves songwriting. And someone who was unapologetically honest about who I am, but also about what I want to say in my music. Through good or bad, through being boxed into something or not boxed into something or whatever, I write really personal pop music."
