Taron Egerton Is Gay Baiting So Hard With His “Kissing A Man Onscreen”: A History

The Gay Internet is no stranger to weighing gay-baiting comments from straight celebs, and it's actually the ubiquity of these comments over the past half-decade that makes it so shocking (to me at least) that in 2019 we still fall for this shiz! I survived James Franco, I was bamboozled by Nick Jonas, and I'm just not going to fucking do it again. I feel very attacked!

Taron Egerton is set to play Elton John in Rocketman. The biopic doesn't hit theaters until May 30th, but we've already endured years of Egerton's will-they-won't-they relationship with a dick and balls. In 2018 he captioned an Instagram picture of a boy with "Cutie. My boy ❤️." Being of sound mind and body ody ody, Egerton had to have known that this would spark gay rumors. Which it did. Taron, gay agasp, responded to the gay rumors with:

I’m not gay but two of my mates came out when I was 15 and it was a joy to support them because, as a group, we are all secure in who we are. I’m certainly not going to stop calling my mates cuties and gorgeous, because they are cuties and they are gorgeous.

"We are all secure in who we are." He's here. He's secure. Get used to it. While this defiant tangentially-gay narrative is something that could use a once over (does Egerton see himself as an advocate here, or in need of advocating?) it's actually not what really pisses me off. What grinds my grundle is Egerton's incessant sexual teasing, and our willingness to take in every inch of it. Just last month he told the gay magazine Attitude about filming with Richard Madden:

I felt Richard’s penis… on my leg. We shot a scene where we are both naked on a bed and we are rolling around. I don’t really know how much further we could have gone.

Fucking barf. So much strategy is sunk into marketing these days, except for when it comes to getting those pink dollars. Pretty much every gay blog picked up that quote in April, making us look like such an easy target. Have a sexy straight guy say something gay. Voila. Gay publicity. Pube-licity. And the attention has to be addicting for Egerton as well. Since he has no skin in the game, as he's not gay, he can rattle off these comments and watch as the Internet lights up like a gay switchboard. A bitchboard.

Alllll of this brings us to Egerton's most recent gay-baiting comments in The Hollywood Reporter. He's pimping Rocketman hard now that the debut is just weeks away, and stated of his homosexy scenes in the flick:

For me, kissing a man onscreen is no less appealing than kissing a woman onscreen. I’m not in any way repulsed by the male form. It’s an uncomfortable thing regardless of who you’re with. It makes no difference as to your sexual preference.

At this point the man is talking himself in circles. And blogs (both mainstream and gay) are so horny for Egerton's gay-baiting that by simply stating that he's not repulsed by men, Egerton nabbed headlines for this in People Magazine, Out Magazine, Huffington Post, and more.

For our part, I feel that gay men still value the admiration of straight men over the admiration of other gay men. Straight male attention is validating in a way that gay attention isn't, which leads us to crown an actor like Taron Egerton as King of the Man Buttholes, even though he's never been inside one and frankly might not even have one. Ya, I went there.

We can fantasize about sleeping with straight men, but we need to know that when straight men play into this fantasy for personal or professional gain (without actually putting their money where your dick is) they're not endorsing your lifestyle. They're extorting it.
