Gay Icon Shawn Mendes Finds Gay Rumors “Hurtful” In New Interview

Gay icon Shawn Mendes is opening wide up yet again about the gay rumors that have followed him throughout his career. HOW do those get started?! The snarky songstress ruffled feathers with his 2018 Rolling Stones interview, in which he said that he feels the need to be photographed with women so that people will think he's straight. Now he's addressing the gay rumors again in an interview with The Guardian:

I get mad when people assume things about me because I imagine the people who don’t have the support system I have and how that must affect them.

That was why I was so angry, and you can see I still get riled up, because I don’t think people understand that when you come at me about something that’s stupid you hurt so many other people. They might not be speaking, but they’re listening.

The phrase "talking himself in circles" comes to mind. As a former gay youth, I can say no rumor relating to a star's sexuality set me back emotionally during my adolescence. I don't know who Mendes thinks he's protecting here, but it ain't teen me. And honestly, if you're a celebrity with 42 million Instagram followers, rumors are bound to arise. And there are far worse accusations than homosexuality. It's tops! Or in Mendes' case, bottoms. Am I just a disgusting insensitive hag, or do we need to start a nonprofit to protect the (IRL straight) Shawn Mendes from gay rumors? Spillzzzz...
