GOP Senator Has Decidedly Unscandalous Dinner With This Guy

If a Republican senator went out with even a non-famous gay guy ten years ago, he'd be in trouble. Nowadays, an openly gay Republican goes on a date with a pornstar and it's no big deal. Progress? We guess.

Our friends over at The Sword bring us this story of Republican Minnesota State Representative and official batter (or maybe catcher? Who can tell?) for our team, Senator Paul Koering and his dinner date with pornstar Brandon Wilde. Normally we'd be all about this sort of thing. Politicians openly fraternizing with pornstars? Flirting with them, even? Awesome! One could even be forgiven for thinking that this is another small step on the road toward a less homophobic, more sex-positive nation. Ah, but then there's this:

"He told me he wants to be President one day!" Wilde told The Sword. "But first, he needs to win his re-election. He said once he was re-elected he'd work on gay rights issues and NOH8 stuff, you know? He said he'd make it so gay marriage was legal in Minnesota…"

…For his part, Koering has denied telling Wilde that he'd work on gay issues if re-elected. "I don't remember telling him any of that," Koering said. "I don't support gay marriage. My job is to support my constituents, and that's not something they want."

Everything we've tried to write about the above quotations has ended in all-caps ranting, so we'll leave you with this thought: *sigh*
