It’s Hard Out There For A Porn Star

Our Devoted Readers will recall that the comments section of last week’s item about Kurt Wild getting fired from his job at Subway included talk about how much money porn stars make–and by sheer coincidence we came across this handy-dandy primer on the matter this week. You know, just in case you’re interested in quitting your own fast food career and making some extra money on the side (or whatever position you prefer). But don’t start planning for that chateau in Normandy just yet: as porn scribe JC Adams says, “[M]ost porn actors earn between $500-$1500 per scene. Contract stars can earn $2000-$3000, perhaps a bit more, but they might not work as often, so it evens out.” Guess we can forget about retiring at, um, 30 … (GayPornTimes.com)

You mean they don’t pay by the inch? Damnit!

Well, JC Adams does say that websites pay more than DVD studios, so I wasn’t totally off base in the previous thread. But I find those scene rates for DVD’s to be paltry, especially after taxes. This industry needs its own Norma Rae!

Some of these poor guys are really getting bent over the table, huh?

    Heyo.

Puts things in perspective doesn’t it?

Just one other point when it comes to ownership of these sites: Cummings’ site, for example, is part of the Next Door Studios family of sites, so although he may have profit participation, he doesn’t own it outright. I believe most porn stars with their own sites have some sort of parent company that fronts the capital, at least in the beginning.

I used to think that the Corbin Fisher guys (and the like) probably make more money doing what they do than working at A&F or Hollister (you know, take it they are actually in college and all) but maybe I am wrong. Perhaps when you factor in the hours they work, but still. (I would probably fuck Caleb for free on American College Sex if asked.)

@Will: Advertising. I forgot. As far as ownership; that’s my point. That is the guy/gal that’s getting paid. It’s why Jenna Jamieson (sp) is a millionaire.

Cody may not “own” the site but the guy/gal that does is getting paid.

How may of us have or had a Sean Cody membership? I know I paid my share to see some fuckin’! :-)

Money in internet porn is not in the talent, it’s in the production and distribution. That’s why people like Cody Cummings (who has never sucked a dick or fucked a guy) do gay porn. Cause he can make a lot of $$$.

Ok look at it this way, lets say Cody Cummings charges $29.00 a month for you to watch him. If he can get 10,000 people WORLD WIDE to check out his site he can clear $290,000 in a month.

Subtract hosting charges for hosting the web site (let’s call that $100,000) and what he pays talent (maybe $1,500 * 8 guys he used during the month-updates twice a week ($12,000) and you have $178,000 left to cover location fees (seedy hotels?) or what ever.

If incidentials run $25,000 then he’s got $150,000 left over. 1/2 goes to taxes and he CLEARS $75,000 A MONTH.

Now THAT is good money if you can get it.
