Chi Chi LaRue Says “Wrap it Up!” (Again)

2008_02_12_chichi.jpgIt’s been about two weeks now since directrix Chi Chi LaRue released her latest safer sex PSA, and while it’s a bit more slickly produced (and, uh, much longer) than the ones we used to fast forward through watch before fapping to her porn opuses on VHS back in the day, the message hasn’t changed. Actually, maybe it’s changed a little: Chi Chi’s emphasis these days is as much on the safety and well-being of the performers as it is on the folks who might be more inclined to use condoms in real life after seeing them being used in her films — all of which is causing quite the debate on Towleroad (where the new PSA was first posted) between those who support Chi Chi’s adamant safer sex stance and those bareback porn fans who think it’s all just hypocritical posturing for publicity. As for us? Well, we’ve already made it pretty clear which side of the debate we lean towards, and we’ll keep watching Chi Chi tell us to “Wrap It Up!” as long as she has the chops to do so. (And especially if she keeps including all that hot background footage in her PSAs. Much as we love watching her talk, watching her put her money where her mouth is is even better.)

And yet, the Gay porn community refuses to follow the testing and documentation regimen used by the Adult Industry Health Care Foundation for hetero porn, which has proven reasonably effective. HIV is obviously already rampant in the gay porn world, and ‘side income’ from ‘escorting’ goes bareback for a nominal surcharge. Get real.

My partner and I are both HIV-, and enjoy messy facials, etc., and thus consume bareback porn. So sue us, as the technology to keep the performers safe exists but is not being utilized.

By the way, I have review screeners for the latest Channel 1 Releasing discs, and the new “Wrap it Up ” is not yet on them…

@Charles_Barrett: Actually Charles, you’ll find that most mainstream (i.e. not “fetish” stuff like barebacking) gay porn companies follow FAR more stringent safer sex rules than the people in the straight porn industry. And let’s not pretend that AIM was founded for anyone other than people in the straight industry.

Wait wait wait; I thought there was a program of testing. A couple years back when the famous black guy (str8 porn) tested positive didn’t they find out because of the testing program?

I do not know if HIV is rampant….even if it were, I suspect it would be more about the activities “away” from the camera. I suspect a lot of the guys are hustlers…I am not making a judgment, just an ill informed observation.

@oocman: AIM (Adult Industry Medical) is an organization that was formed to do STD testing for the straight porn industry. People can get tested days before a shoot, know their status and then, in a lot of cases, go and do a number of totally unsafe things in a shoot and their clean bill of health from AIM makes this all kosher. I work at a straight porn company and I see this a lot. I think AIM is great in many ways but acting as if this is a foolproof method is misguided at best.

Mainstream gay porn companies, while not using a service like AIM, generally act from the standpoint that a lot of performers are positive and therefore stricter safer sex policies are followed – no barebacking, (mostly) no oral cum shots, etc.

Now that I think about it, that guy who’s name I can still not remember supposedly got infected while filming bareback with women (men?) in Brazil. That’s a tough row to hoe.

I seem to remember another story where three twinks got infected. One recently “converted” to HIV+ and passed it on to others.

    That has got to suck.
