The New York Times' New "Zoo" Review

Manohla Dargis at the NY Times reviews "Zoo", director Robinson Devor's extended documentary musing on the oft-blogged 2005 new story about a Seattle-area man who died from injuries sustained while having anal sex with an Arabian stallion. Lest the title and subject matter don't already give you a good idea that this ain't Merchant Ivory cinematic territory, the inimitable Ms. Dargis provides a reasonably tasteful description of what you'll see should you happen to catch this playing at your local multiplex (or more likely, find it in your Netflix queue someday): "Mercifully, you don't see this death on camera, though if you sit close enough to the screen, you will see a few fairly brief images of one sexual event, accompanied by graphic sounds ... Art-house devotees may be a tolerant lot, but it's doubtful they want to look at a stallion's erect penis stretched across the big screen like a sailboat boom, at least in public." While we appreciate her words of caution, we're thinking she may overestimate how delicate our sensibilities really are: if we were able to sit through "Perfect Stranger" while on a date last weekend, we can pretty much sit through anything.
