Fleshbot Poll: To .XXX Or Not To .XXX?

PORNSTARS

2007_03_27_dotxxx.jpg

The interweb—or certain parts of it anyway—is abuzz once again this week over ICANN's impending vote on whether to create a new top-level domain expressly for porn sites: advocates of the much-discussed proposition say that a .XXX domain will make it easier for filters to keep adult content from being accessed by minors, while critics (including many adult industry advocacy groups as well as some religous organizations, curiously enough) claim that the proposed structure will only serve to ghettoize online smut into a position where it could be more easily censored. (Not to mention cause an explosion in the numbers of such sites, since registration for a .XXX domain would be voluntary on the part of webmasters and there'd be nothing to stop anyone from mirroring, say, Fleshbot.com at Fleshbot.xxx as well.) Since there are varying reports on the amount of public support or opposition to the idea, we thought we'd put the question to the best-informed porn viewing audience we know: our readers. We can't say whether ICANN will take our findings into account this Friday, but at least we'll be providing another statistic to help frame the debate as it continue to rage on in the future.
