    Scott Poulson-Bryant: "Hung"

    2005_11_07_hung.jpg

As New York magazine noted, there's nothing subtle about the cover of Scott Poulson-Bryant's new book, "Hung: A Meditation on the Measure of Black Men in America": you'll notice the ruler slapped across the chest of a buff, shirtless cover model ends just at the 12" mark. Which is all part of the author's intention—as Poulson-Bryant says, "The title came to me before the book did. I loved the idea of black men historically and stereotypically being considered well hung." In the book, Poulson-Bryant relates his own experiences as a black man in America, interweaving his sexual history with both men and women and witty analyses of how black male sexuality is expressed in books, film, television, sports, and porn. (And to the pervs in the back row who are wondering about the author himself ... there's an interesting anecdote about his college nickname, Scott Pulsing-Giant. Does that answer your question?)-RM
